Texas Studies
Texas currently operates the nation’s largest state-funded performance incentive program called the Governor’s Educator Excellence Award Program (GEEAP). GEEAP consists of three performance incentive initiatives. The first is the Governor’s Educator Excellence Grant (GEEG) program which operates in nearly 100 public schools. The Texas Educator Excellence Grant (TEEG) program, with program guidelines very similar to that of the GEEG program, operates in over 1,000 public schools. The final initiative is District Awards for Teacher Excellence (DATE) for which all public school districts are eligible. These three initiatives are projected to allocate an approximate $247 million per year to high-performing educators when fully-funded in the 2008-09 school year.
